Aggiornamento per Debian 6.0: rilasciata la versione 6.0.4

Il quarto [18]aggiornamento per Debian 6.0 (nome in codice "Squeeze") è
stato rilasciato. Questo aggiornamento apporta principalmente
correzioni per problemi di sicurezza al rilascio stable, oltre a
piccoli ritocchi per risolvere problemi seri.

Pillole dal team di rilascio

Niels Thykier ha spedito alcune [19]pillole dal gruppo Release dove ha
annunciato diverse notizie interessanti: l'aggiunta di armhf e s390x a
testing (ma queste architetture potrebbero essere temporaneamente non
sincronizzate con le altre), l'accettazione di un nuovo obbiettivo di
rilascio ("flag di compilazione per irrobustire la sicurezza"), la
realizzazione di oltre quattordici transizioni a testing (compreso
GNOME 3, Perl 5.14, Python 2.7 e altri). Niels ha anche voluto
rammentare che il freeze avverrà a giugno, anche se la data precisa del
freeze non stata ancora scelta.
Inoltre, Niels ha annunciato che Cyril Brulebois è entrato a far parte
del team di rilascio, diventando assistente al rilascio:

Pillole dal team dei manutentori di piuparts

Holger Levsen ha spedito alcune [20]pillole dal team dei manutentori di
piuparts annunciando che piuparts viene nuovamente manutenuto da un
gruppo e che stanno ricevendo molte patch e altri contributi. piuparts
è uno strumento importante per la certificazione di qualità in Debian
che esegue diverse prove per verificare che i pacchetti possano venire
installati, aggiornati e rimossi senza problemi. I risultati di tali
prove sono disponibili pubblicamente sul [21]sito web di piuparts, ove
vengono aggiornati su base giornaliera. Holger ha esortato i
manutentori a verificare regolarmente le proprie pagine personali di
stato su piuparts per eliminare problemi correlati ai loro pacchetti.
Oltre alle loro verifiche regolari, da dicembre 2011, i manutentori di
piuparts stanno provando [22]l'aggiornamento dei singoli pacchetti da
"Squeeze" a "Wheezy": 158 pacchetti non hanno superato la prova (e
altri 130 hanno fallito a causa delle dipendenze) mentre 33708 l'hanno
superata.

Report from Debian Med sprint

Andreas Tille ha inviato una [23]relazione dal Debian Med sprint che si
è tenuto a Southport, Inghilterra dal 27 al 29 gennaio. Oltre ad altre
attività, il gruppo Debian Med ha corretto alcuni bug, formato nuovi
membri e studenti (rafforzando lo sforzo fatto con l'[24]iniziativa
"Mentoring of the Month") e pacchettizzato nuovi programmi.

Realizzare una scuola nuova con Debian Edu/Squeeze

Petter Reinholdtsen ha annunciato sul suo blog che la prossima versione
di Debian Edu/Squeeze conterrà un [26]nuovo strumento, chiamato
sitesummary2ldapdhcp, che consente di allestire rapidamente tutti i
computer di una scuola con un numero minimo di operazioni manuali. Una
volta che il server centrale sia stato installato, questo strumento
raccoglie dati dalla rete per generare un oggetto sistema nel database
LDAP. Dopo alcune modifiche della configurazione attraverso una GUI, la
rete di computer è pronta per essere usata. Una terza versione beta di
Debian Edu basata su Squeeze e contenente questo strumento è stata
appena rilasciata.

Rispondere alle domande degli utenti Debian

Raphaël Hertzog ha scritto un interessante messaggio sul proprio blog
su [27]come rispondere alle domande degli utenti Debian e, in generale,
come fornire sostegno ai nuovi utenti. Ci sono diversi posti ove
aiutare gli utenti ([28]le mailing list, [29]i canali IRC, [30]i siti
web di domande & risposte, ecc.) ciascuno con diverse caratteristiche,
ma la regola aurea per ogni attività di sostegno è di essere rispettosi
e cortesi (come stabilito nelle [31]Debian Community Guidelines).

Festa degli screenshot per i giochi di Debian/Ubuntu

Paul Wise ha annunciato una [32]festa degli screenshot per i giochi di
Debian/Ubuntu che si terrà il 25 e 26 febbraio e sarà organizzata dal
[33]Team giochi. L'idea è di creare degli screenshot per il maggior
numero di giochi possibile in Debian/Ubuntu e caricarli su
[34]screenshots.debian.net in modo da renderli disponibili per
[35]goplay (un browser per i pacchetti di gioco).

La shell GNOME 3.2 in "Wheezy": una retrospettiva

Jordi Mallach ha scritto un articolo sulla [37]transizione da GNOME 2 a
GNOME 3 in Debian dal punto di vista del gruppo Debian GNOME. "Quando
si ha a che fare con dozzine di pacchetti sorgenti di GNOME allo stesso
tempo, molti di questi introducono nuove librerie, o peggio, delle API
incompatibili, che affliggono molti altri pacchetti non correlati, le
cose si fanno ostiche, e servirebbe un piano" ha detto Jordi. Ma
nonostante il piano per una transizione morbida, si sono incontrate un
mucchio di difficoltà, quali fallimento della compilazione da sorgente
su diverse architetture e incompatibilità con altri pacchetti.
Finalmente la shell GNOME 3.2 è potuta passare nella suite testinf di
Debian e Jordi ringrazia non solo tutti i componenti del gruppo Debian
GNOME, ma anche quelli del gruppo Release: Julien Cristau e Cyril
Brulebois e l'assistente FTP Luca Falavigna, che hanno aiutato a
conseguire questo obbiettivo.

Micheal Gilbert ha scritto un [45]articolo interessante su una recente
falla della sicurezza ([46]CVE-2012-0064) e su come essa è stata
gestita dalle distribuzioni. Anche grazie alle particolareggiate
ricerche fatte da colui che ha scoperto il problema, Debian ha reagito
davvero rapidamente e il problema è stato già corretto nella Debian
unstable in meno di sei ore dalla sua scoperta.

Statistiche sui bug critici per il rilascio nella prossima versione di Debian

Secondo l'[63]interfaccia di ricerca dei bug di Ultimate Debian
Database, la prossima versione di Debian 7.0 "Wheezy" è al momento
affetta da 695 bug critici per il rilascio. Se si ignorano i bug
facilmente risolvibili o in via di risoluzione, rimangono
